Get Thin!
06/29/10 5:47PMFor everyone out there with insanely thick hair, I feel your pain. I have had a massive amount of hair since childhood, and it took years to learn how to control my overpowering locks. Previously, I had tried everything from short (we’re talking bowl-and-scissor short to the point where a waitress in Canada referred to me as a “young boy” during a family vacation) to a layered blow out (think flat on the top and electrocution victim on the bottom). While I never wanted super thin and stick-straight hair like some of my friends possessed, I was always searching for something that would make my uncontrollable hair a little more manageable and light. And the solution is easy: thin it out!
Okay, that might sound TOO simple. But honestly, thinning your hair can do a lot to boost your style and cut out a lot of work. Thinning your hair gets rid of a lot of the weight that falls around the crown of your head: so instead of having a massive pouf around your face, you maintain more of the body at the top of your head (which, as the teasing craze has taught us, is where many hair aficionados are searching for volume in the first place). Thinning your hair also gives it some layers and therefore, more texture; and since I’ve last thinned out my hair (which was desperately needed, let me tell you), I’ve noticed how much easier it is to wash, dry and style my hair.
So if you’re looking for a new style and a new way to control your out-of-control locks, I recommend just asking your stylist to thin out your hair! You maintain the body and volume while getting rid of a lot of the weight, and you’ll find more layers and texture added to your hair as well. It’s a win-win pick, and especially with the sweltering heat of July moving it, you’ll definitely be thankful to shed some of that extra stuff around your head!
